Shadow Minister drops by Coolum

Ninderry MP Dan Purdie has used a visit to Coolum by the Shadow Minister for Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, Dr Christian Rowan MP, to highlight the efforts of community groups supporting our local area.

Dr Rowan visited Coolum last Wednesday, making time to meet with Coolum Hearts, and stop by for a tour of the facilities at the Coolum Mens Shed. Earlier that morning, he also hosted morning tea with residents at Gateway Village in Bli Bli.

“It was great to have the Shadow Minister in the electorate and showcase some of the amazing work groups like Coolum Hearts and the Coolum Mens Shed are achieving,” Mr Purdie said.

Mr Purdie said Dr Rowan’s visit was well received by the two groups, who were both grateful for the opportunity to speak directly to the Shadow Minister.

“Dr Rowan has a wealth of experience and knowledge as a medical practitioner, and has used this experience to really hone in on issues such as the NDIS and champion greater support and assistance for seniors.”

Mr Purdie said the Shadow Minister was impressed by the progress the Mens Shed were making.

“In my own electorate of Moggill, there are two men’s sheds and they are making a fantastic contribution, not only supporting men as they age, but raising funds and supporting other worthy local projects,” Dr Rowan said.

Coolum Hearts President Tony Wellington briefed Dr Rowan on the group’s ambitious expansion plans.

“I can’t believe the wide range of activities this group offers in its ongoing awareness role in advocating for people living with disabilities,” Dr Rowan said. These hard working volunteers are to be commended for their dedication, care and compassion , and I certainly enjoyed taking the time to discuss their concerns”
