Patience secures better bus access

The daily school journey is about to get even easier for a group of Doonan students following a successful 18 month campaign to re-route the local school bus service.

Ninderry MP Dan Purdie said a collaborative approach and a lot of patience had proven the key to the positive outcome, with Translink signing off on a proposal to extend the 5804 bus service to Valley Drive, Doonan.

“Around 18 months ago local resident Darren Cousins, who has championed this project from the beginning, asked for my help to approach Buslink in relation to relocating the existing bus stop on Wattlebird Place to Valley Drive, where most of the students who access the service live,” Mr Purdie said.

“After extensive investigations and surveys of the current route, Translink have approved Buslink’s request, and the new bus stop on Valley Drive will become operational from next month,” Mr Purdie said.

The bus service runs from Noosa to St Andrews Anglican College and Peregian Springs State School.

Mr Purdie said he was pleased to see Buslink and Translink taking on board community feedback and remaining responsive to local needs.

“This is a great outcome for everyone involved, particularly the local community, who are set to benefit from the improved access,” Mr Purdie said.
