Ninderry MP shows support for annual Sleepout

Member for Ninderry Dan Purdie MP has supported St Vincent de Paul’s fundraising efforts for homelessness on the Sunshine Coast, with a $250 donation ahead of the annual Sleep Out later this month.

Mr Purdie, who will be in Parliament for the Sunshine Coast Vinnies Community and Corporate Sleepout on August 23, said homelessness was a growing problem across the region.

“According to the latest ABS statistics*, 894 sleep rough on the Sunshine Coast every night,” Mr Purdie said.

“That is an alarming figure, and it’s imperative that we not only support agencies like St Vincents who are working hard to address this issue, but that we also work together as a community to find long term solutions.”

Mr Purdie said it was great to see that all funds raised locally would remain on the Sunshine Coast.

“St Vincent de Paul is hoping to raise $150,000 locally, and I am really pleased I can do my bit to help them reach that goal.” For more information on the local Sleepout in Maroochydore on 23 August or to register, go to www.communitysleepout.org.au
