New Honours Board celebrates community champions

A new honour board recognising Coolum’s Australia Day award winners has been unveiled today.

Ninderry MP Dan Purdie hosted members of the Coolum Lions and Lionesses for the official unveiling of the Honour Board, proudly displayed at the entrance to his office.

Constructed by long serving Coolum Lions member Doug Alford, the new Honour Board includes the names of all local Australia Day award winners across all categories since 1995.

“This is a fantastic way to acknowledge our local community champions over the years, and ensure their contribution isn’t forgotten,” Mr Purdie said.

“The Coolum Lions Club, who recently celebrated their 40th anniversary, have done a tremendous job in coordinating our local Australia Day awards for more than 20 years, and I also want to recognise their efforts in ensuring this local tradition continues.

“They too are an integral part of our local community, and their organisation of our annual Australia Day celebrations and local Awards ceremony is a real credit to them.

“I am delighted to be able to recognise not just all our previous award winners, but all of our Lions and Lionesses who serve our community.”
