• These changes will make it easier and safer for public transport users and pedestrians to navigate the growing Bli Bli township. 

The Crisafulli Government is delivering on its election commitment with design progressing for a pedestrian refuge crossing on a busy section of David Low Way, Bli Bli. 

While Labor failed to keep pace with growth on the Sunshine Coast during their decade of decline, the LNP Government is delivering targeted safety improvements where they are needed most. 

The new crossing point near Bli Bli Castle will improve safety by allowing pedestrians to cross one lane of traffic at a time, shortening the crossing distance and limiting their exposure to traffic. 

With a growing number of pedestrians using public transport facilities in Bli Bli, the project will provide an additional crossing opportunity and improve pedestrian safety. 

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Crisafulli Government was restoring safety for Queenslanders after years of inaction under the former government. 

“The Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of improving safety across the state’s road network,” Minister Mickelberg said. 

“After a decade of Labor failing to keep pace with growth, we are delivering the safety upgrades that Queenslanders deserve.  

“Getting the design work underway for this this election commitment at Bli Bli demonstrates how the Crisafulli Government is focused on delivering a fresh start for Queensland, making it safer for pedestrians and all road users to get home to their families.  

LNP Member for Ninderry Dan Purdie said the upgrade was long overdue for the growing Bli Bli township. 

“Bli Bli has seen huge changes in recent years with a new hotel and shopping precinct, but under Labor, road infrastructure hasn’t kept pace with development,” Mr Purdie said. 

“I launched a petition to raise concerns about pedestrian safety on David Low Way in 2023, following an incident involving a high school student being hit by a car at this location after alighting a school bus. 

“The Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of restoring safety where we live after the needs of the Bli Bli community were ignored by the former government.”  

Design of the new crossing is expected to be completed later this year. More information will be provided once timeframes for construction are finalised.
