Financial support to give kids a go

As local clubs and sporting groups prepare for a busy weekend of registrations and annual sign-ons, Ninderry MP Dan Purdie is reminding families that financial assistance is at hand if they are struggling to meet the cost of raising active kids.

Mr Purdie said the next round of the Get Started Vouchers, which provide $150 to assist with the cost of sports and recreation membership, opens this week.

“We know many families across the coast are struggling with the ever increasing costs of living, but that shouldn’t stop them from signing their kids up to their local sports club, and benefitting from the rewards that come with that,” Mr Purdie said.

“Every child should have the opportunity to enjoy the mateship, camaraderie and responsibility that comes from being part of a team or social club.

“Financial status should not restrict participation,” Mr Purdie said.

From Wednesday (6 February, 2019), eligible families can apply for the vouchers, which can be used at a registered sport and recreation club up until 15 May.

Eligible families are those with children aged 5 to 17 whose parent, carer or guardian holds a valid Centrelink Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card with the child’s name on it.
