Eumundi: The Original and still the best

From humble beginnings, the growth of arguably the Coast’s most popular cultural institutions, the Original Eumundi Markets, has been showcased in Parliament as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations.

In a speech in Parliament last night, Ninderry MP Dan Purdie described Eumundi as no longer just a market town, but an international tourist destination.

“It is a thriving hinterland community where people can find our region’s best coffee, food or craft beer seven days a week,” Mr Purdie said.

Mr Purdie said he was honoured to be part of the weekend’s 40th anniversary celebrations, which included the official opening of a dedicated exhibition, and the unveiling of a special commemorative plaque in the Eumundi township.

“The Markets are no longer just a tourist attraction – it is a breeding ground for small business success, with many local artists and creatives using their skills to grow their wares into state, national and international success stories.”

“Thanks to the dedication, commitment and stewardship of a number of hardworking community groups, we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of one of the coast’s most popular and successful artistic and cultural institutions.

“Groups that include the Eumundi Combined Community Organisation (ECCO), the Eumundi and District Community Association (EDCA), and the Eumundi Historical Association, and proudly supported by the Eumundi Chamber of Commerce, Eumundi Rotary, and the Country Women’s Association.

Over the decades, the Eumundi community has endured its fair share of trials and tribulations, but thanks to the unwavering support of these groups and locals, we are able to acknowledge and celebrate its vibrant history and proud legacy,” Mr Purdie said.
