• The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a key election commitment for the Sunshine Coast.

• The investment is part of the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to getting Queenslanders home safer and sooner. 

The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a key Sunshine Coast election commitment, with design now underway for major safety upgrades at the Nambour Connection Road intersections with Diddillibah Road and Blackall Street. 

The proposed upgrades would see new traffic signals installed at both intersections to provide safer turning movements, improve intersection capacity and increase the efficiency of the local road network. 

Critical upgrades like Nambour Connection Road have been put off for too long under the former Labor Government, who allowed cost-blowouts and delays to continue instead of getting on with the job.   

The release of the planning layout marks an important milestone in progressing the project, with the community now invited to help shape the final design before detailed planning continues. 

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the planning layout marked an important step in progressing the Government’s election commitment. 

“The Crisafulli Government made a commitment to improve safety and efficiency at these intersections, and we’re getting on with the job of delivering it,” Minister Mickelberg said. 

“These intersections are used by thousands of motorists every week and we’ve heard the community’s concerns about safety, delays and access.” 

“The proposed installation of traffic signals at Diddillibah Road and Blackall Street will help improve safety, reduce congestion, and support a more efficient local road network as the Sunshine Coast continues to grow.” 

“This planning layout gives the community an opportunity to help shape the final design and ensure we’re delivering the best outcome for local road users.” 

Member for Ninderry Dan Purdie welcomed the progress on a project the community had long been calling for. 

“These long-awaited safety upgrades will make a real difference for residents, businesses and visitors travelling through the area every day,” Mr Purdie said. 

“The improvements will help reduce congestion and ensure our growing communities get home safely.” 

Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt said it was exciting to see design underway.  

“I’ve spoken with many locals who know these intersections well and understand the challenges that come with increasing traffic volumes and difficult turning movements,” Mr Hunt said. 

“That’s why it’s so exciting to see design work now underway and the project moving closer to delivery.”
