I’m seeking your views about the government’s proposed legislation to establish Voluntary Assisted Dying.

I believe this is a matter beyond politics, and I’ve always said I would seek the views of my community before I vote on the legislation (in September).

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read through the proposed legislation.

There is also a wealth of material about this important subject from a broad range of stakeholders available on the internet, and in the media.

In its draft laws, the Queensland Law Reform Commission has recommended that to access voluntary assisted dying, a person must:

  • Have an eligible condition that is advanced and progressive, and expected to cause death within 12 months
  • Have a capacity to make a decision around end-of-life choices
  • Be acting voluntarily and without coercion
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Satisfy residency requirements including being an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • and have been a resident of Queensland for at least a year.

I would appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey below, as your feedback will help inform my decision.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Dan Purdie MP
