Community calls to save NHW secure its future

Ninderry MP and former frontline police officer Dan Purdie has welcomed news that Neighbourhood Watch funding will be reinstated, following the Palasczcuk Government’s decision to cut its budget by 85% earlier this year.

“I am pleased to see the State Labor government has come to its senses and back-tracked on a decision that was going to cripple the operations of this volunteer group,” Mr Purdie said.

Mr Purdie launched an online petition earlier this year to save Neighbourhood Watch after the State Government announced its intentions to slash its funding.

“This is a great result for Neighbourhood Watch, whose volunteers do a tremendous job supporting the efforts of police, particularly in the promotion of community safety.

Neighbourhood Watch volunteers from across the state were left understandably gobsmacked by Labor’s decision to cut their funding, and were quick to join Mr Purdie’s efforts to reverse the decision.

“This is a massive win and a sign of confidence in the efforts of the thousands of Neighbourhood Watch volunteers who donate their time and effort in supporting community safety,” Mr Purdie said.

“These volunteers act as the eyes and ears of their local communities, so I am pleased the Government has been forced to recognise the overwhelming support that exists for Neighbourhood Watch.”
