Coolum Beach will once again become the envy of the Sunshine Coast after its annual makeover on Saturday, as part of Coolum Surf Club’s annual Beach Clean Up.  

Coolum Surf Club Operations Manager Petra Shorter has put out the call for volunteers to help with this year’s event, co-hosted by Gage Roads Brew Co and Coolum and North Shore Coast Care. 

The event, now in its third year, will be held on Saturday 18 May, from 10am, kicking off from the beach side of the Surf Club.  

Last year, volunteers helped remove a massive 27kg of rubbish from the main beach. 

Ninderry MP Dan Purdie said it was disappointing that some people were too lazy to take their waste with them when they visit the beach.  

“We’re all so proud of our beautiful beach here in Coolum, and it’s a real shame that a small handful of people can’t be bothered to put their rubbish where it belongs.” 

Dan will once again host a free barbeque after the event for everyone who volunteers their time. 

Saturday’s event will go ahead rain, hail or shine, according to Petra. 

“Obviously we’d all love to see the sun shining on Saturday, but the rain won’t stop us from pulling on our gloves to keep our much-loved beach looking pristine,” Petra said.  

The event will be held from 10am, and gloves and bags will be supplied. Volunteers can sign up on the day.
